Best thing my wife and I ever did is become debt free. It gives you a level of "fuck You" that you don't understand until you get there. We just bought a car and when you're paying cash, you are in the driver's seat with negotiations. "Fuck this, I don't need it" is liberation like you never understand until you do.
Cut everything frivolous. No eating out! Pay the smallest one first, then use that payment + what you were paying extra on the next one. It's addictive, you start getting addicted to removing debt. The letter you get when your mortgage is gone is the best. I got mine laminated and keep it in storage. You can do it pede!
They're an honest dealer, but I had a check for 29k and could easily drive to another dealership. I told them I won't borrow money again, so they had to make it work, and they did.

you can get better deals if you finance, since they've got incentives for that. Then just turn around and pay it off immediately after
They told me I'd only get the incentive if I financed. I said no, they gave me the incentive and I wrote a check and left with no loan whatsoever.
