Yup. My mother (petite, size 0) told me once "I'm a FIGHTER!" . The strength with which she said it surprised me, but her life characterized it and backed it up.
When she was in hospice the doctors gave her a few hours to maybe 12 hours to live. "But it's up to her", they said. I told them, "oh, then we're going to be here a few more days". The doctors looked sadly at me, since clearly I was delusional and didn't want to face the truth.
My mom lasted a full week longer. Other doctors came to see her because they heard about her and couldn't believe it.
Thank you. Once you get older... you realize how things work. There's nothing we can do to stop death - although we can delay it. My mother had a great life and made it to over 80 years old. It was sad to lose her, but not terrifying. You'll be ok when the inevitable happens, I am sure. Meanwhile spend the time you can with your parents.
My mom held my Grandmother's hand and told her it was OK to go. Gram opened her eyes and said my mom's name and then, "I'm not at the front of the line yet!"
Mom died on Christmas day in 2002. She had stopped eating and drinking in early November of that year. Mom died at home with me caring for her. No IV or anything , but a pump for pain meds. She wouldn't use the button to administer.
I feel for this man's family, more than I could ever say. I pray that Abba, the Father, changes His mind and restores him to health, for a benediction of His grace. We, us poor slobs who are just trying to get through, need this. Our faith is there, but oh, wouldn't it be a wonderful thing to have a miracle to cling to right now?
Same thing happened with my father. He waited to die until my mother left the room to go to the restroom. She had told him she did not want to be there when he died. He waited until my mom left and my brother returned from his walk to be by his side with me.
Honestly, the thought that we might send off Rush Limbaugh from a communist hellhole instead of the country he loved and wanted to save is absolutely horrid. 😥

Your mom sounds like a little firecracker.

My ex worked at a nursing home for decades. She would be the first to tell you, that yes, they do hang on for important events, visits , whatever.

No, I don't think that's cold at all.
