Coconut poisoning

I think the politically correct term is "breast cancer"

2
Count_Dyscalculia 2 points ago +2 / -0

She made my coconuts hurt as a young kid

If you review all the news reports you'll find most of them say she died of causes "related to covid-19" which is another way of saying she did NOT die of covid-19.

She had some illness for a while and had fallen on hard times. A lot of her memorabilia was sold off and she was getting donations to help her.

She will always be MaryAnn in the hot outfits to me!

SirReginald 16 points ago +16 / -0

Any sensible horny male wanted her over Ginger.

CahalTheMad 6 points ago +6 / -0

Defo. Ginger was great for a punp and dump but a real man wife's up Mary Ann.

3
Lady_MaGa 3 points ago +3 / -0

True story: Dawn Wells received 3x more fan mail than Tina Louise. It was a shock to everyone who was working on Gilligan's Island.

3
SirReginald 3 points ago +3 / -0

It's time for Ginger to shine because she's the last cast member remaining to open fan mail.

OrangeFruitGood 13 points ago +13 / -0

That's sad to me. I had heard she had a GoFund me page a couple of years ago, but I didn't know she had illness and had to sell off her memorabilia.

CoVid + what else? Very rare that someone just dies of CoVid.

I'm sorry she has died.

gnostic357 29 points ago +29 / -0

She had dementia and was living in an assisted living facility. She was 82. End-stage dementia has a life expectancy of 1 to 3 years.

11
OrangeFruitGood 11 points ago +11 / -0

Oh, that is news to me. Sad to hear about that. I knew she was early 80's, but she seemed so youthful and healthy too, in just recent years.

7
Mrs_Fonebone 7 points ago +9 / -2

Oh, dear, that is sad--the dementia really weakens the body as well as the mind.

Yep. She had a good, long life. Now she can be free for at least a while.

So shorter than a presidential term. We're in for it.

4
Wtf_socialismreally 4 points ago +4 / -0

Are we? I don't think that scenario plays out, because Biden isn't going to be allowed in.

4
BigIronBigIron 4 points ago +4 / -0

Ah, how silly of me

2
KickingPugilist 2 points ago +2 / -0

Trump doesn't have dementia, silly.

12
Junosu [S] 12 points ago +12 / -0

She was older.... but always better than Ginger!

5
Mrs_Fonebone 5 points ago +7 / -2

LOL, I was going to say that in my comment. The Ginger character was a wanna-be Marilyn--amazing how those evening gowns held up over the years! I always hoped Mary Ann and the Professor would get married.

9
Junosu [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

I was always jealous of the Professor. I wanted her all to myself. We were lucky to grow up when these were the big "challenges". Even as a kid, I knew Ginger was drama. Funny thing is - she still is!

3
AsaNisiMAGA 3 points ago +3 / -0

I always hoped for that too! Tina Louise is fabulous in earlier films though. I love her performance in "God's Little Acre."

FL2PC72LE2 12 points ago +12 / -0

I was always convinced that Gilligan's Island started with a few Hollywood execs asking each other: "Who would you rather be stranded on a deserted island with, Dorothy or Marilyn?"

Then someone said, "Both!"

Then someone else said, "I'd want to be stranded with Einstein. I just think he's really interesting."

Then someone else said, "The Rockefellers, because you could get in really good with them, and then when you're rescued, they'd probably totally hook you up."

Then someone else said, "No, no... Abbott and Costello. That would just be funny."

Then someone else said, "Imagine all of them together. Ha ha! Dorothy, Marilyn, Einstein, the Rockefellers, and Abbott & Costello! Ha ha ha, that would be--"

Then they all looked at each other and went, "Heeeeeyyyyy.....!!!"

That was entertaining to read.

Great post. I agree with you. There's also a theory that each castaway represented the seven deadly sins (http://www.gilligansisle.com/sins.html):

Is Gilligan the Devil? Years ago, CBS had a popular little series called "Gilligan's Island". There is, however, a dark secret about this "comedy" you may never have realized. The island is a direct representation of Hell. Nobody on the island wants to be there, yet none are able to leave. Each one of the characters represents one of the 7 deadly sins: Ginger represents LUST - she wears skimpy outfits, is obsessed with her looks, and is a borderline nymphomaniac. Mary Ann represents ENVY - she is jealous of Ginger's beauty. The Professor represents PRIDE - he is an annoying know-it-all. Mr. Howell represents GREED - no explanation needed. Mrs. Howell represents SLOTH - she has never lifted a finger to help on any of their escape plans. The Skipper represents two sins: GLUTTONY - again, no explanation needed and ANGER - he violently hits Gilligan on each show. This leaves Gilligan. Gilligan is the person who put them there. He prevents them from leaving by foiling all of their escape plots. Also, it is HIS island. Therefore, Gilligan is SATAN. Crazy? He does wear red in every episode.

I always thought she was the hottest when everyone else I knew liked Ginger.

7
Junosu [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

Ginger was always too much drama for me. I just want to personally thank the props and costume teams for some of her costumes in my youth.

It's sad that 82 year olds die.

Rescuedogdad 6 points ago +6 / -0

I was extremely lucky to have met Dawn Wells in the late 90’s. She was nearly 60 years old and absolutely gorgeous in person. My friend and I had a very nice ~5 minute conversation with her and I’ll never forget it. RIP Mary Ann.

shellcracker7 - 3 years ago - Now I understand why Gilligan kept fouling up their attempts to leave the island.

Hey... that actually makes sense...

Sorry for your loss. You can blame China and the Democrats.

4
OrangeFruitGood 4 points ago +4 / -0

I heard this a little while ago as well. Saddened to hear it. I rewatched Gilligan's Island earlier this year, and also saw the movies like "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" for the first time also.

I know she was older, but still wasn't expecting her to pass so soon - 82 is still a year or so short from when I typically expect people to pass (around 83-84). And she still had a youthful characteristic. Someone I could have easily pictured living to her late 80's or 90's.

2

No doubt she had, on average, 2.9 other comorbidities/causes of death.

Hmmm.
