yes. Just like CTH said which was posted earlier. All those senators want to be the guy Mitch goes to when he needs something. When Mitch comes calling, that is money in the bank for them. In exchange for their loyalty to Mitch, he will give them money, favors on some particular issue, funding for re-election, etc.
If you object, Mitch will never come calling. And to be honest, objections cannot win Trump the election. It is impossible since the house is majority Dem.
They should object because it is the right thing to do. And the politically savvy should know that the old GOP is basically dead now if Trump doesn't win.

i imagine some of them see themselves as next in line to be the leader of the GOP so they wouldn't mind if Trump got knocked off

There are multitudes of GOP seats at local, state and federal level that have been for sale for years. For those few people who have the right connections any seat they want is up for grabs.
Just look at swallowswell. He bought his seat with the help of Chinese money. He was just caught, but I guarantee that story is the same on the side of the GOP.
The swamp is fighting this because they do not want to be exposed as well.
Bitch McConnell also purchased his seat. There is no way he had an 18% approval rating in his district and yet beat his primary opponents in a 76% landslide. Bought and paid for by his Chinese money backed wife.

I am making a list of their names so I never forget. I will never support the traitors who claim to be Republicans and refuse to support our POTUS. The election was so obviously fraudulent. Anyone with half a brain who is in politics needs to fight for a fair election and this is the time to fight !
I think reform is needed in Congress and the Senate to end this weird hierarchy that's established to force others to kiss rings! Without this reform, corruption will be nearly impossible to stop.
