I believe I read somewhere that when a SCOTUS justice is nominated, one will be nominated as a chief justice. Hence a sitting justice would not become "elevated" to chief justice. This is unfortunate, since Clarance Thomas would be absolutely amazing there.

I am pretty sure behind the scenes he had tried to reach Roberts, but the case was a test, and Roberts showed his real colors.
Trump needs to neutralize Roberts - either force him to recuse / resign, or force him to do the right thing.
Lin is setting the stage to whatever it is Trump has in plan. I dont know what the plan is. I can onyl guess. One part of the plan is to make more and more people understand, through channels "blessed" by Trump, that Roberts is evil. Here are some assumptions I make:
Roberts was indeed a conservative judge, who, inexplicably turned around - especially on some crucial decisions like abortion, Obamacare etc. It happened after Obama took office.
Obama and his cohort of Brennen, Clapper and Comey used illegal spying to compromise high ranking officials.
I believe Deep State exists and they have a mechanism for controlling its elites without ever worrying about being betrayed. They seem to close ranks very effectively, as demonstrated with Russia Gate.
I believe whatever mechanism Deep State uses to control their Elite involves some form of extreme crime, that if it comes out, can destroy a person not just professionally, but also personally.
I believe Trump is benign and I also believe that the only way his second term is going to be successful is if he can neutralise this Deep State.
I believe Lin Wood and Sidney Powell have been avery effective and successful lawyers, in some very high profile cases taking on the big players. Sidney has taken on the FBI deep state (Read License to Lie) and Lin has taken on the Media giants amongst other folks.
I believe Trump and his team have fully trusted Lin and Sidney, regardless of how much the media spins otherwise. I have seen media do the same to portray Rudy as a crazy and insane man. So stands to reason the same is applied to Lin and Sidney as well.
From 1 & 2, I can deduce that Roberts was caught up in the Obama spying and got compromised.
From 3 & 4, I can deduce that Roberts was involved in whatever this "extreme crime" is.
From 4, I can also deduce that whatever the "extreme crime" is, its going to be totally crazy and insane for normal people to think about. Its the glue that keeps the Deep State together, while making sure you can portray anyone who even questions about it as a conspiracy theorist.
From 5, I can deduce that Trump has access to the knowledge about what kind of compromise Roberts has.
From 6 & 7, I can deduce that Trump has entrusted Lin with the information he has access.
I also believe that Roberts has exposed himself through the Texas case, and it is imperative that Trump neutralizes him - either force him to do the right thing, ot force him to recuse himself.
Now if we tie everything together, Lin's tweets makes absolute sense and we actually get a glimpse of what the "extreme crime" perhaps is. It has to do with Kids and rituals.
The fact that he is taunting so much and Roberts is not trying to shut him down only adds confirmation to this process of thinking.
The fact that Lin is intensifying this attack means the time has come to force the issue of Roberts, and Lin is setting a stage for whatever it is Trump needs to do with Roberts.
