Take Alito's order to separate late/non dated mail in ballots. Once they open the envelope and run the ballot through the machine you can't go back and pick out who's ballot it was. Thats why the poll workers were just throwing in the ballots they were supposed to separate. Even if they weren't supposed to do it it couldn't be undone. Last I heard they weren't getting in trouble for violating the order of Supreme Court justice.
