I recommend Brave New World which is more akin to what is manifesting now. 1984 is the strategy BNW is the reality

Actually covid is full out 1984. Precovid the corporate fascism i would have agreed .

i wasnt so much talking about plot and setting as the themes are fear to control vs pleasure to control.

yeah there was a big era where a lot of writers had their takes. Fahrenheit 451 is another more commonly read book addressing censorship and total control.

I definitely see elements of both. It's really scary just how prophetic they both turned out to be.

The opening line from the 1953 film version of 1984.

What happens to the people in this story might happen to us. Might happen to you. If we should ever relax in our fight for freedom, if we should allow any individuals or any group of individuals to reduce our freedom of thought, our freedom of speech, our freedom of religion, then what happens to the people in this story will happen to us.

First season of Brave new world came out 2020 I think on amazon prime with nine episodes. I don’t recommend it at all. I’d say instead watch handmaid tales.

lol oh geez of course it sucks its amazon prop. handmaid is a terribly misconstrued "history"

All because Disney doesn't want others to get their hands on Ze Maus.

I have never heard of Ze Maus . Do you have a link ?

NeoDragoon 3 points ago +3 / -0

Dude, it's Disney, the only "Maus" is "The Mouse", the corporate mascot and face of the company, Mickey Mouse. Just using some German flair to play with the stories about old Walt.

Multi-generational copyright must be destroyed.

Ideally on the day of the rope.

Just started reading 1984 after hearing so much about it for so long.

It's a true classic. I've read it many times but it's been a few years. Given the current state of the world, I think another read may be in order.

In this day and age. A book of fiction is becoming reality.

It's public domain in countries that use Life + 70, which includes George Orwell's country of the UK. The U.S. doesn't have a "shortest term" clause in it's copyright laws. Copyright in the United States for a book published in 1949 expires in 2044 (95 years after being published). You'll have to wait another 23 years for it to be public domain in the U.S.

Anyone interested in what actually got added to public domain today can visit: web.law.duke.edu/cspd/publicdomainday/2021/
