Is that just a rural MO thing? I guess some people in the city would never do this, but the joggers who shoot each other daily, should be able to relate.

I'm in the woods in Texas, people shoot out here when they want to, but New Years's and the 4th people always do mag dumps in between the fireworks.
A neighbor dumped a mag of tracers last night out across the lake, first time my Wife had seen them, she thought they were rockets.
I had toyed with the notion of running a mag of blanks thru a .308 but didn't, we had the Grandkids here and so we just watched the fireworks instead.
It's a Thang here too, people all over the woods lighting it up. Your neighbors will laugh and joke about it, we'll say 'took him twenty rounds to hit whatever varmint was getting after him'. We do not just randomly shoot up in the air, all of us are safety minded, we know where we're shooting and most of these guys and gals do hit what they intend to hit.

I have a huge hill behind my house I can safely shoot into. I can shoot 75 yards from my back porch or go up closer for pistols. They shot for about an hour and a half last night.
Apparently black folks like to shoot up into the air for new years. I was in Iraq over new years during oif 5. Our ROE said we weren't supposed to shoot any of our ammo unless hajis stormed the base. One of the guys in my platoon had some ammo stolen. And on new years we heard it being shot into the sky.
I still can at my house bc I live outside of town. Was gonna shoot a 30 rd ak mag, but it was cold and raining and I fell asleep early with my young son. Might need that ammo soon anyhow!

They aren't smart enough to think of random bullets coming from the sky and hurting somebody.
uhm. i would doubt that. they have stray bullets hit ppl on the reg. i think they just dont practice firearm safety.
That was my point. Wouldn't want a random person getting hurt. Some people are just ignorant or just don't care
