I’m British. Yes, this is real. It was disgusting but totally predictable. I’d like American’s to know that London is not representative of the rest of the country. Unfortunately the world doesn’t get to see too much outside of London. Things are not as bad as they may seem. This country has just left the EU today and consistently votes for the Conservative Party over the socialistic Labour Party. We’ve got Boris as Prime Minister, he’s not fantastic but he’s a step in the right direction. Of course there are problems, but there’s problems everywhere across the western world. The U.K. is in the process of gradually fixing these issues.

I hope you're right as well. I'd like to visit England someday, preferably the countryside.

The countryside is beautiful, that’d be a great idea. For the countryside, the most obvious place would be the Lake District National Park. It’s a UNESCO world heritage site so should be easy enough to book and access etc. Another great place would be Bath. If you’re looking for that ‘Old World’ experience, that would provide it. Also, I’d suggest going to any English ancestral homelands you may have. That could be the most satisfying trip of all.

I have heard of the Lake District, a friend of mine did some biking/hiking around the area. It's on my list of hopeful destinations.
