I stopped liking that Hornsby song. That 2nd verse really gives away his liberal/communist intents for the song..
"Standing in line bucking time, waiting for the welfare dime, cause they can't buy a job. Man in a silk suit hurries by and as he catches the poor old ladies eye, just for fun he says... Get a Job."
See, the only reason they're in the welfare line is because they can't buy a job. And rich people in silk suits are all obviously evil racists. Isn't that right, Karl?
Many songs from the '80s were self-flagellating white guilt anthems disguised as catchy pop tracks.
Let's Dance - The music video makes this much clearer, but Bowie's whole message, particularly the "put on your red shoes" part was essentially Aborigine supremacy over evil white imperialism.
Beds Are Burning - Australians with British ancestry should "pay the rent" for doing more with Australia in 300 years than the Aborigines did in 30000.
The entire Tears For Fears album "The Seeds of Love" was written with second-wave/proto third-wave feminism in mind. There's even an interview where the band members talk about it.
A bit of a more obscure one if you're not from the UK, but The Stranglers' No More Heroes is more or less a love letter to assassinated commies.
If you know where to look, you'll start finding them everywhere.
Tupac and Bruce Hornsby agreed, that's just the way it is, some things will never change.
But don't you believe it.
