Disagree. The movie (and play) is about a bunch of completely demotivated salesmen. They have a weak and feckless manager who has accepted their failures. That scene is them being kicked in the ass to wake them up, presumably after their manager has failed for too long to motivate them properly. Itโs shock treatment.
Heโs right about a lot, that the only real answer is to fire them at that point, because even if he manages to get a little fire lit, most of them are content to fail. Ultimately itโs their manager who is at fault (Williamson) and you can only assume that however much Baldwins character gave it to them, Williamson got it worse, deservedly so.
But he makes the point that all of the things they are preoccupied with mean nothing if you canโt deliver. I wonโt go into what comes of this in the story in case you havenโt seen it (you should) but itโs interesting.
The opening scene of Glengarry Glen Ross, my good man.
Watch it and make it your personal creed. Alec Baldwin just said the lines, David Mamet wrote them.

Yeah, that opening is Baldwin being a dick for five minutes straight, so pretty much just Xandy being Xandy.
