The usual reason is that absentees only get counted when the race is close enough for them to make a difference. I understand the reasoning, but in a case like this they ought to be counted on principle anyway.
And they really don't have room to make that argument while also trumpeting "count every vote!".

Usually the margin is so wide that it won’t effect the outcome. Eg 30k lead 5 k ballots.
