Older GoPro models that are brand new in box go for like 100 a pop maybe even less and they're still really great cameras. A used Hero 3+ can be bought for $50 on eBay and it's more than capable. The body strap that goes along with it goes for around $5 to $10 on eBay as well.
Edit: The big reason you want a GoPro over of those cheap 30 dollar amazon clip cams is because of the GoPros wide field of view. You'll regret going cheap when you realize your camera has worse peripheral vision than your 80 year old grandma.
