At the risk of getting downvotes, let me qualify my post by saying my wife is an ER MD that has been working in hospitals in TN and FL since this whole thing began. The patients she's seen present with literally every kind of symptom - heart attacks, rashes, diarrhea, profuse sweating, pink-eye, etc... But the most common trait, particularly in those that are advanced in their illness, is clotting.
She was moved to the ICU in August, and with the exception of a single patient, ALL of them died. She has (and continues) to experience PTSD-level shit. She cries herself to sleep every night. As an ER doc, she never got to know her patients. In the ICU, she's working with patients (and their families) for 30+ days. It has been brutal.
She'll be the first to say it's been politicized, and the numbers/risks are not what they claim. But, for those that get gravely ill, it is every bit as bad as what has happend to Letlow. COVID causes heart attacks due to clotting. This should not be seen as someone who died of a heart attack, and oh, he also had COVID.
They've given us no reason to trust anything they say. All we get are second hand stories of the terror while SO MANY OF US are seeing people quarantined or given medical leave only to return saying they never had any symptoms.
We have had soooooo many at work test positive and get quarantined. Only 1 actually got sick. He's back to work, said it really wasn't that bad. He a 60 year old obese guy and had little issue with it
It's possible but they have lied NON FUCKING STOP.
You don't trust people that aren't honest. Especially when every time some truth gets out, the data gets harder to find. Used to be able to go to CDC website and find the charts and graphs. Those started gaining traction then suddenly became harder and harder to find.
It may be true but after destroying my life this year and having people constantly parroting false info, I don't see why I should believe it.
There are a few people at work who claim thing people are dying from this. They don't understand numbers.
Average age of death to covid is 79. Average life expectancy is 78.54. Oldest person in US is like 115. There are only about 80k people over 100 years old.
Do you know how math works? Because an average of 79 with your upper limit being 115 and only 7ish% of the population older than 79. 93% of the population make up such a small portion of the deaths that the average age is within 8% of the population, the same 8% that already are the majority of deaths!!!
Why should I trust anything they say when a 3rd grade student can figure out something is fucked here.
But seriously, keep in mind that doctors working with the sickest of COVID patients in the ERs and ICUs are not in control of what the media reports - or what the CDC (or even their hospital administration) says.
My ER doc wife has screamed regularly at the TV or computer about blatantly false information being reported. Even about easily verifiable information such as hospital ICU capacity or number of patients. What can she do?
You see what happens to docs who buck the system. It's easy to say, "speak up, tell the truth, quit in protest, etc" but the reality is the medical community is a very small group. If you cross them, your $200k degree becomes worthless. Of this, I am 100% certain, as it nearly happened to wife when she made waves about fraudulent coding for billing. She hasn't been able to find work in our home state ever since.
All-cause fatality is not rising. The infection fatality rate for covid-19 is lower than the seasonal flu for people under 50.
The very worst you can say, based on these numbers, is that covid-19 is mostly killing some percentage of old people who were going to die of some other cause this year.
Quick, destroy the global economy! The massive knock-on increases in suicide, domestic violence, and starvation are a small price to pay in order to save literally fucking no one.
Whether the overall death rate for the year is lower, higher, or stays the same, it doesn't lessen the first-hand experience of those people trying to help the most gravely ill.
I think what most people here fail to see is that it's not black and white. It's not "you believe in masks, so you believe all the hype". That polarization is unfairly casting doubt on those that are taking huge emotional and physical stresses to care for people dying in horrific numbers.
Again, my evidence is only anecdotal, as it is just my wife's perspective as and ER doctor working in the ICU. But, as she put it, those who reach her level of care are sick for so long, that it wipes them all out. Flu + pneumonia = 1 week in ICU at most and then you're either dead, or back in the step-down unit or discharged. With COVID, it's averaging 30 days in the ICU, and ultimately, ends in death. When every one of the 10 patients you're caring for die despite your best efforts and latest therapeutics, and you've developed a bond with the family members (texting, calling, video conferencing) at all hours - even when home trying to rest before your next 12-hr shift - it is devastating.
My wife does NOT wear a mask when shopping. We haven't curtailed our outings. She is resolutely opposed to getting the vaccine, and warns anyone we talk to, to avoid it like the plague.
So you see, you can believe that COVID is real, experience the VERY REAL tragedy that countless patients and their families have endured, but still recognize that power-hungry politicians are taking advantage of the crisis.

Is it possible that most people experience no complications, but the ones who do, get blood clots?

Ha, unless you're not counting Biden voters.

Correct. The OP is fake news, the article lays out what happened pretty clearly.
