I agree I think this is great for consumers but I think a lot of doctors do a lot of "BS" because they're always worried about lawsuits. There's a lot of scummy people out there that sue doctors for just about anything even when the doctor did their job well.
Sure but the point is, they wouldn't have to pay for the insurance, lawyers, and charge you for all the extra tests and procedures (the "BS") if it weren't so easy for scumbags to sue for everything they felt like.
At the moment there is not enough pushback from the citizenry on the doctors to lower prices, one reason being a lack of a target. Now a citizen can look at a hospitals “menu” and create public pressure over certain outrageous prices.
What Trump did with this will be a big win long term. Initially, there will be some chaos, but once hospitals and insurance companies can no longer play games with what things actually costs, a chunk of the fraud, overcharging, waste and paperwork overhead can be cut out.
Things like $4,200 in testing to make sure a patient really needs $1,800 in treatment, because insurance companies don't want to pay out. Things like fake charging $6,500 on paper for a treatment protocol when the cost is really $2,100 but some insurance companies pay more or less than that and the hospital has to eat the costs for some patients while making extra money from others.
And they rig the law so even in a short sell (more debt than equity) the lawyers get paid first and fully, everyone else divvys up percents on the dollar.
Also, how can hospitals expect to stay in business if half their patients are illegal immigrants with no insurance? Hospitals DO NOT turn people away in the ER. This problem is multi-level and needs to be addressed as such. What will end up happening is nurse and physician pay will go down so much that no one will want to go into healthcare; hospitals in poorer areas will shut down first, and a virtual robot will be your new doctor.
Nursing will be fine since a LPN can still work with just. A bachelor’s. But who would want to be a doctor if the salaries drop? 8 years of expensive schooling which will put you in debt. Then, 80+ hour weeks during your residency while getting paid less than minimum wage. There are easier ways to make a good living.
Typical red herring. I've requested invoices from insurance companies on stuff of mine they've covered. They billed $25 for an apple and two bananas I ordered for breakfast.
That comment about doctors having malpractice is the same argument that BLM and Antifa use after they raid and burn a business- they use the insurance argument. Do you realize the stress doctors face every day and night? They practice defensive medicine because of all the frivolous lawsuits that might get thrown at them! PLUS once a doctor is sued (even if he is innocent) his malpractice goes up! It's so annoying how so many people shit on doctors...most doctors are over a quarter-million dollars in student debt and spent the last 15 years in higher education and subspecialty training before even getting a decent paycheck.
Soon being a doctor will NOT BE FOR ANYONE. Who in their right mind would go into medicine these days, incur a tremendous financial burden for such little reward? That's what socialized medicine does. To make up costs, hospitals will force doctors to see more and more patients and spend less and less time with them. More patients for less pay. Doctors are already putting in 15 hour days.
If it's anything like how veterinarians work, they will still do all the usual CYA but will have a price list for shit like MRI, Xray, CT scan and the like if you ask about it. This will also open up the ability to shop around for procedures that aren't urgent to make sure you're not going to get fucked by copays.
Obamacare also added so many layers of bureaucratic nonsense that some practices have like a 3:2 ratio of docs to billing employees, just because it takes a lot for them to even know what they are billing for.
Obamacare BS. Source: a private practice physician friend who has no idea what he can bill for until after his services are done.
Not only that, but doctors spend most of their day talking to bureaucrats with no medical knowledge trying to advocate for their patients and convince the insurance company to cover a procedure!

Doctors have insurance for that and lawyers paid for. Trust me , this is all around great news

Doctors don't set prices- the hospitals they work in do, as well as insurance companies. So put your pitchforks away...
It’s not the doctors who determine the price. It’s the hospital administrators.
EXACTLY!!! TORT REFORM!!! Lawyers are ruining our healthcare system!!

This is true. I temporarily worked for an insurance company that sold medical malpractice insurance to doctors.

You can already shop things like scans for price. Oftentimes it's much cheaper to do them outside a hospital
Obamacare (written by the hospitals and insurance) killed private practice for exactly this reason.
Obamacare also added so many layers of bureaucratic nonsense that some practices have like a 3:2 ratio of docs to billing employees, just because it takes a lot for them to even know what they are billing for.
