I spent a decade on that site, starting around the time of the 2000 election. JimRob lost his mind (due to physical ill health, and probably related medications) and it went to hell in a handbasket. I've peeked in again from time to time. It's made a very small bit of recovery, but sadly, JimRob is still crazy, and as long as he's alive and involved at all, the site has no chance of returning to anything remotely approaching its former glory. It may look okay now to people who weren't a part of it during its heyday, but for those of us who were, it's just depressing.
I do hope John will revive it after his father passes away. Right now, the best thing about it is that the interface has not changed at all, meaning it is very mobile unfriendly, and the relative absence of mobile posting/commenting has a tremendously beneficial effect on the quality of discourse in any forum. But I worry that when he formally takes over, John will "update" it to appeal to the mobile crowd. If that happens, it will die a quick and ignominious death.
