If Trump didn't think this argument would be made by Pence, why would he be tweeting it? I know that's not the strongest evidence, but I also think that Trump has a very large ego and if he wasn't confident, he would be taking another tack to the 6th that would try to protect his ego rather than enhance the blow if what he wants to do is ineffective.
Pence was brought on as a bridge to the establishment GOP. He has not stood up for trump during key moments of the campaign and presidency, such as the Billy Bush tapes. He has not said a single thing on Twitter about election fraud.
Pence stood by Trump even THROUGH the Billy Bush tapes. What could he possibly say that would somehow make it all better? Pence brings the Evangelicals with him, all those people that would have a hard time voting for a billionaire thrice married playboy can just look at Pence and say, Yeah, ok, if he can stand by him, so can I.
I don't have confidence in Pence either. I know that's not the "popular" opinion these days, but I just don't get good vibes from him. My theory is that I think Pence is the inside-OUTSIDER. In other words I think Pence thinks he's playing Trump for the establishment, when in fact Trump is playing (or has played) Pence like a rowdy fucking fiddle. I think he's been feeding Pence shit for four years and watching what he does with the (imperfect) insider information Trump feeds him. IMO this is a possibility and could work as a very affective tactic to get Pence to do exactly what Trump wants him to do at the last minute OR to seriously FUCK the swamp just when they think they have Trump in a Check-mate situation....I could be completely wrong, but I think it's a possibility and falls in line with GEOTUS and his genius.

From my understanding, Pence isn't in the position to argue anything. He either does or does not count the Electors.
The only "arguing" that might happen is during the deliberations after Electors are objected to by the congress.
