Eating is a principle. Paying your bills too. Seriously, pragmatism is the American philosophy. The government has harmed most citizens and you want those citizens to refuse a pittance because extra suffering builds character and grit? I have never filed bankruptcy (can’t say the same for plenty of rich including...) and now I should refuse receiving some of my own money back? Please, this is the sort of high minded posturing nonsense that makes the GOP seem like an absurd country club practical joke. “Hey Joe Q Public, shame we shut down your work out of fear of the Wuhan virus we may have funded, but good on you for suffering more in silence and not noticing how we waste money the world over.”
I am not saying that at all. The $ is either made up fiat stimulus (in which case I prefer it go to the citizens than select transnational corporations and politically connected groups) or it’s part of the wealth (debt) of the nation, in which case I still want to see it go back to citizens. Federal, state, and local governments are responsible for the absurd lockdown rules. For some the $600 or $2,000 isn’t needed, but for many it is real relief from part of this. While I can appreciate suffering in my own life, I don’t wish it on others.
This nation routinely helps greedy corporations and vile foreign governments, but now we are supposed to cry about the government doing that thing mentioned in the Constitution “promote the general welfare”?!
