Yes. I used to be one of those dirty hippie prog types my whole life... dude, I am telling you... God and your fellow brothers and sisters will provide. People are going into this with a "pool your resources" attitude. No one is leaving til the fat lady has sung. Take something you can trade. As you are on your way over, just put out feelers everywhere. Talk to people who look like maybe they want to talk. When you find people you click with, stay with them... ask for the help you need without expectation or shame. People enjoy helping eachother.

There is ZERO chance you end up sleeping on the street. Hippies do shit like this all the time. If you can, take a compact tent so that you can offer to just use someone's land for the night if you can't find a place indoors... but even that probably wouldn't happen. Especially if you bring something to the table that you can share... even if its just a giant bag of beef jerky, just bring what you can and be flexible and relax. You will be fine.
