The 300 Spartans accomplished their goal. Similarly to The Alamo. They only had to hold the enemy off for a certain amount of time. That's why it is so heroic, they knew their mission would result in their deaths but they still accomplished what they set out to do.
I don't like this one very much. It's a bad ending.
