Whoever designed this airport? He needs to be put in charge of entire City Design. Imagine combining the convenience of city with THIS kind of retention of nature even in buildings. And make sure that he has a plot of land for every single dwelling place to maintain, even if it's indoor land, like a front lawn in front of their condos. People who don't have their own land never learn to build or grow for themselves.

And tons of energy to pump tons of water, then suck all that moisture back out of the air so that every area with A/C doesn't drip water from every cool surface.

Let nature live in natural settings, not in a sealed space with millions of human gawkers passing through. This is beautiful in a Liberace chandelier sort of way but these attempts to awe visitors will always be one-upped by time, technological change, decay, or competition.

"Swamp Coolers" have been a thing for a long time in very dry hot desert climates, where you cool by evaporating water and the extra humidiy is fine. It is not so great in a hot and humid climate.

Ok, but by “cool” they meant “not die of heat stroke”. That shit was still uncomfortable.

Have been to Singapore airport a few times and behind the glitz it's very shoddy and lots of areas stink of damp and mold.

Singapore got wealthy because they AREN'T China. They have a very free market approach, had a big removal of corruption just about 20-30 years ago, and are a great place for companies to do business if they want the proximity of far east Asia ,don't want to be situated in China, and want really low taxes.

There are a lot of places that are financially tied to China and none of them look like Singapore or Taiwan. They often look the complete opposite since China's primary focus is NOT to spread their political philosophy everywhere but to become the 1 and only global superpower.

Singapore isn’t tied to the CCP at all lol

You are correct! Singapore's growth has happened in 1 generation and has been the result of 2 actions:

1: Lowering of taxes. In fact, Singapore is definitely more capitalist than the US. They have lower tax rates and fewer social programs.

2: Removal of corruption. 3 decades ago you could find only a few differences between Singapore and the neighboring areas. Now they are huge because they had 1 main politician help root out an immense amount of corruption.

For all the leftist fools that point at China's growth as a sign of socialism succeeding they lack any knowledge about Singapore which is far more capitalist now than the US and is a stunning place.

Singaporeans are super based. They’re not dissimilar to Taiwanese people!

That place isn't reproducable. American cities are awful. Seriously, the way everything is zoned necessitates a car which puts people below the poverty line. A good city is one that you can walk to a corner shop on the way home from work.

American cities mostly focused on the automobile.

It's nice in theory, and you can have spots like this, but doing it everywhere would be enormously costly. All the upkeep of employees who tend to it, the water for watering, tools, etc. And then the messes that they make with falling needles/leaves/etc. It's a cool place, but it's not really a scalable design.

Singapore is a beautiful place but you are right, you couldn't do this for a large country. But there's also far more GDP and tax revenue a larger country brings in and yet our taxes are squandered on Pakistani gender studies (totally not money laundering!)

Well all of Singapore doesn't even look like that, but Singapore city is also considered the most expensive city in the world. So it's clearly not cheap. Also chewing gum is illegal and drug trafficking is punishable by death. Weird place.

Yes, not all of Singapore looks like that and yes, the city, which is basically most of the country, is expensive to live in... but at least you're getting something out of the price. San Francisco is crap. LA is getting worse and worse, same with New York. All really expensive places. Singapore has one of the most expensive rapid transit systems in the world but at least it works wonderfully... California spent a ton and has now cancelled their rapid transit system. Total failure.

As to their laws, every place has had weird laws. Some stuff may be extreme but look at the tyranny the west is going through right now and tell me that isn't worse.

No place is a utopia and so yes, Singapore isn't perfect for anyone, regardless of your preferences for society. But that doesn't mean they aren't far more well off than most others.

Too busy over-taxing citizens and businesses and then laundering that money.

The US can and should absolutely have beautiful locations like Singapore does, but Singapore had to go through a dramatic political change to create this kind of beauty.

Firstly, they removed a ton of corruption in their government. Secondly, they lowered taxes to the point where if you want to do business in Asia but want to avoid China at all costs (including not risking Hong Kong -- smart considering what has happened), you go to Singapore.

Singapore doesn't even have many social programs too. It's why they are NEVER used as a success story of a modern culture by socialists --- they're quite possibly the most opposite society currently in existence.
