Amen! We left a nice home in an HOA to find an even better home not in an HOA. No one telling us how to trim our bushes or if we can keep our boat the driveway.
Singapore is the way it is now (huge transformation in ~30 years) because they lowered taxes and removed a lot of governmental corruption.
They are a free market success story.
And yes, they have stringent (and most would say excessive) penalties for small things like loitering but utopia doesn't exist and it's a small price to pay for what they've accomplished in an incredibly short period of time.
Singapore is what happens when you let your local HOA take over the government. Sure, it looks pretty, but I wouldn't want to live there.
