My counter to this narrative is there is one man who appointed those people. Did he make mistakes every time, but you people suckle his teets too hard to criticize or make excuses for him? Or did they all play a role?
Yes. He easily could have made a mistake every time. He's not a politician he went in not understanding how DC worked. He had bad advisors who gave him bad advice, and only offered him poor choices, and a senate that wouldn't approve of outsiders even if he did nominate them. He did the best he could, and was betrayed at almost every turn.
