I agree with regard to opiate painkillers which though super addictive are very safe when taken in moderation (i.e. not to overdose levels). Benzos are still handed out like candy and, unlike opiates, withdrawing from those can be fatal even from using them as-prescribed.
Dude, benzo withdrawals and alcohol withdrawals are BY FAR the most deadly, Opiate withdrawals make you FEEL like you're dying and can kill if you have heart problems or severe hypertension by raising your blood pressure. GABAergic withdrawals make your body go completely haywire. Things like your heart rate, breathing, etc.
i think Dr Jordan Peterson went into a long rehab stint to get off those wretched Benzos pills. If someone as based and level headed as JP can get caught up in it what chance does the average joe have with a serious pain ailment?

If you have anxiety, try everything before Xanax.
If you have insomnia, try everything before Klonopin.
If you have PTSD, I'm sorry, but Benzos will help for a few weeks...a few months, then you'll need a higher dose.
Eventually, you can't get a high enough dose because they don't make pills strong enough. You will take the Benzos just to feel normal; forget about your initial problem.
Sadly, most doctor's have no clue how bad they are. I have often thought that doctors should be required to take the prescriptions they give out- the addictive ones. Make a doctor take xanax 2-3 times a day for 2 months.... Then let's see if he's willing to go cold turkey (he'd have a seizure) Let him taper a week or two, and see how he felt (he'd be unable to function as a medical professional)
Some people go through Benzo withdrawals that last 6+ months of pure hell, even WITH a slow taper.

Benzos are no joke. Poor JP seems like he's still struggling in the aftermath.

Amen. They give these things out like candy to people with."anxiety disorders" I mean I saw them prescribe them to a garden variety shy girl.
Doesn't she have to stay on them for life now?
