Cash would only be a short term solution, if the grid went down cash would be worthless shortly after, spend it fast. Gold and silver have always been real currency.
I'm not sure cash will mean anything either in that scenario. It will be able trading. Water, food, batteries, heat, medical/hygiene stuff...you know the rundown.
Maybe it's not an all or nothing scenario. Cyber attacks on the banking system, internet communications. Cards wouldn't work but cash would. Be prepared and cover as many bases as you can.

Very true- but if you have to or can buy from a grocery store you will need cash. Just sayin'
