Americans do, however, understand that the central heating can be turned on all day - not just an hour before bedtime from January to March 1! Same with hot water.

Sure, I could live in an icebox all day and try to desperately warm up the bedroom before bed, but science tells me you actually sleep better when it's cooler outside of the covers than under them.
