This is something that always has been, and probably always will be, a major struggle for any society built on democratic principles.
The vast majority of the population are purely content with having their “bread and circuses”, and thinking about anything beyond that would require too much effort for them. They see no reason to ever question authority or think for themselves, because they’ve got a smartphone, Amazon and Netflix.
