I work in Healthcare. Hospitals were absolutely cooking the books for that sweet "COVID" check. A patient could've died from a GSW, and they'd still find a way to link it to COVID. I'm not surprised the numbers were exaggerated.

In fact, CNN continuously leaves a "+" at the end of their numbers on screen. They never give an accurate count.
