What kind of attitude is that man... I'll take anyone who has a job at Walmart over someone living off welfare checks because they're too "proud" to work at Walmart.

Always strive for better but a job is a job.

Walmart is the top employer of welfare recipients.

I think the taxpayer is the top employer of welfare recipients.

I'm of the mindset that working and getting welfare is better than not working and getting welfare. Idiots might disagree.

I could, but for two reasons.

First is that I'm a Horticulturalist, it's a passion and I've done it for 20 years, and there's no other options anywhere around me at the moment, as the Independent Garden Center scene almost died out under Obama, and then as it started to reassert itself, "COVID" (Restrictions) stabbed it in the heart and put it back in the grave. Right now I can live comfortably and I don't want to give up what I've built for myself for lesser return, at least until a time when I can be relatively certain that I won't invest every single thing I own into it to tomorrow find my gates chained shut and "police" to drag me before the Tyrant Himself to decide my fate.

And second, well, I don't like to give ground. I prefer to fight tooth and nail to fix what's wrong. I've won my share of small scale battles against shitty management in the past, and my presence and well-visible beliefs and politics are actually an inspiration to other co-workers. I helped make up other associates' minds to vote for Trump. I made people see that it's not about "the color of your skin," it's about Legal Immigration Status. I debunked the "fine people" myth. There's been other times and issues, and nothing that I as one man have done has changed the company as a whole, but the company as a whole is made up of individuals, and nothing will EVER change if I give ground and leave and wait for it to collapse under its own weight. Maybe it'll happen one day. Maybe the next time I have to go toe to toe with an upper manager who tries to fuck me out of my hours because I absolutely REFUSE to let him schedule me on Sundays, I'll lose that battle and I'll have to eventually be fired for simply not coming in on the Lord's Day (Not Morning, not Hour, not once a month but Every Week.) But if I lose that fight I lose that fight. But the fight has to be fought. Even if it doesn't truly matter at all. Because that's who I am.

I completely understand this view. We can't just 'tear down the system' without something to consume the power vacuum or Walmart's business just goes to Target or Costco or wherever. This thing is a hydra, and it will just grow another head. The correct action, IMO, is to boycott ALL of the businesses that we can that don't share our values, or at least curtail our reliance on them.

I work for a large pension that likely has huge investments in China. I can't just walk into the CIO or CEO's office and start jumping on the desk demanding things. It doesn't work like that. Our strength is in a million little ppl like you and me making seemingly small changes to our lives that when put together shakes the whole apple cart. Respect.

Thank you. I find it ironic that so many people here despise communists and socialists, and the welfare state that they create (and rightly so do they hate them!)

But then they demand that I give up everything that I have worked for, to satisfy what they want. It doesn't work like that. It really and truly does not. I don't have the mind or the patience to build a true competitor to Walmart, that would actually hold true to the original values that Sam Walton built his company around (reward excellence and hard work, buy American, improve peoples' lives through Capitalism's Bounty.) But if someone else does, and they want the services of a 20+ year professional Horticulturalist who still actively keeps up on yearly garden trends, new pesticides and herbicides, new hybrids, possible blights and plagues, newly resistant weeds, and all the stuff that people usually can't get from someone wearing a blue vest, I'd go over in a heart beat, even for slightly less pay (until I fucking prove my worth, then you're gonna pay what I deserve.)

But to anyone who sees me trying to repair and correct the course of the boat I'm in, and telling me that I need to jump into the ocean, as they putter past me in THEIR boat? Nah, fuck them.

I'm sorry and I hope you can find a job at a company that isn't playing an active role in gutting the United States.

The Chinese are living very nicely off of your labor.
