I listened to a few of the clips. To me it sounds like President Trump is setting them up for lying. Asking them direct questions that sounds like he already knows the answers to. If this is the case they are now on record. Just my 2 cents.
Sort of, I feel he's doing this to try to convince them to Do The Right Thing.
Not because he need them to do it (because he doesn't), but because he's trying to save their lives, and he honestly believes that they still have a bit good and honest in them somewhere.

If you have everything and it will rock the house, you have to exhaust all alternatives. Gives casus belli and justification, so when it's laid out they can't claim they would have solved it using courts, legislatures, etc.
