No prob w/ the Independents. A lot of us were life-long Independents, but we had to re-register and join the party of the person we wanted to vote for in the general election before the primaries (in my state and others I assume) to be allowed to vote in the primaries (for the President, in other words). First-time registered voters, too. You had to pick a side, or you couldn't vote in the primaries.
