People think Teachers Unions support education and students. WRONG! Teachers Unions represent the interests of it's members [education employees]. They don't care about kids or education.

37
snuggs316 37 points ago +37 / -0

education "employees." you'd be surprised at the split....it's like 30% teachers/70% administrators...and the number of admins has grown mightily in the last two decades.

17
Krigstein 17 points ago +17 / -0

I’ve heard that a few times. They add multiple administrative positions for every single teacher position filled.

Because institutions are funded, not students

5
ThorsonTT 5 points ago +5 / -0

The whole system is a money suck. Eventually, the only way to get more pay is to be promoted, so they create pointless higher positions.

That's the reason they also want more counties. More counties equals more administration.

2
joesailor61 2 points ago +2 / -0

NJ has only 21 counties but over 680 school systems, no lie. 70% of our property taxes fund the school systems, and the average household pays around $8,000 a year in property taxes. Some pay twice and three times that much.

1
LiberalismIsTheVirus 1 point ago +1 / -0

I never heard of the exact numbers but I know NJ sinks in a lot of money into the school system. I also know people who believe they need more funding to educate the kids better and of course they're all liberals. What they don't realize is throwing more money at the system doesn't help the kids since all it does is create administrative jobs, increase their salaries, kickbacks with moronic publishers meant to indoctrinate kids, etc. It's amazing how many liberals think the money actually helps the kids. How about they have some accountability like charter schools who actually set requirements for teachers. Instead they have rubber rooms where teachers get paid to do absolutely nothing at work.

https://nypost.com/2019/11/02/nyc-pays-rubber-room-teacher-six-figures-20-years-after-sex-abuse-claims/

I heard of a movie that came out around 2009 that supposedly highlights a lot of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cartel

It’s pretty infuriating watching them subvert public opinion solely to enrich themselves. I’m in a union and we’re always hyper focused on our service delivery, whereas the teachers union is just constantly bitching and threatening to strike if they don’t get their way. And their objective isn’t to provide a better service, it’s to protect themselves from any type of performance measurement while they take higher and higher benefit packages.

I understand completely why people dislike public unions.

5
tombombadil 5 points ago +5 / -0

That is because your private sector union has a mutual interest in keeping your company afloat. There is no such interest in public sector unions. They have no incentive to keep the quality of their labor high because their jobs will always be funded. Even FDR was strongly against public sector unions because of this.

2
IAFF4TRUMP 2 points ago +2 / -0

I am a public union but I understand your point. We do have an interest in fiscal responsibility as our funds are from property taxes and any year could flip the budget on its head (see 2020). That being said there always seems to be more and more money in the federal budget for the teachers unions to milk out.

3
tombombadil 3 points ago +3 / -0

Alright well imagine that something like 2020 happens and your local gov decides it needs to cut teachers salaries to make the budget work. So the local teachers union goes on strike.

But who are they striking against? It isn’t the school system. It is we the people. We are the ones who elected the people that put that budget in place. That isn’t the case in a private sector. Which is why I say all public unions have to go.

2
IAFF4TRUMP 2 points ago +2 / -0

Fair point. But just to clarify I cannot strike at all, not that I ever would even if I could. It’s against the law for me to go on strike.

IAFF4TRUMP 1 point ago +1 / -0

I mean I know that to be false where I live because I see the budget where I am. Your property taxes are typically based off the value of your home, so if your home loses value the municipality has less money than it did the year prior.

Yeah but that’s a bunch of liberal policies that keep the government bloated. I’m in a red area so we have to rightly make due with what revenue the county generates. Democrats will just keep printing money to pay for things they can’t afford.

The reason private industries have unions is to protect the workers from the profit motive of the employer. But their is no profit motive in the public sector. Public sector unions exist simply to protect the public workers from the desires of the public. They are not your friend.

My relative is a teacher. He is a passionate person who really loves to teach kids. He is going to quit soon because all the admins care about are pushing kids through to college where they have 98% drop out rate with in the first semester. Why? Because they only care about the number being sent and not about preparing them for college. They are literally ramming through minorities whom have gotten used to the pity crutches these white liberal pieces of shit foist on them. They get into college and realize they actually have to fuckin' work now. Drop out faster than you can say wE WUz KaNgz.

Not only that but they are pushing the diversity and anti-racism bullshit to the extreme. They engage in purity tests to see if you are actively anti-racist and they constantly change the standards of what that means to get rid of the heretics. The CEO has for weeks been pushing out district wide frothing at the mouth rants about Trump. Claiming they he will not let racism reign. Ironic as his rants are the most racist thing you can imagine towards white people.

A couple of years ago they had an amazing principal at one of the schools who was a tall blonde vet who turned the school around and made it actually start to help kids. What did they do? They forced him to retire so they can bring on a Latino dude from Oakland, CA who vows to force marxist bullshit into the school. Dude even went so far as to call his methods anti-colonizing and indicating that he intends to set-up different standards for black and latino students. Undoubtedly to send more kids to the real world grinder with a smug self-satisfaction smirk on his dumb ass racist face.

The entire system is completely fucked. It is a socialist system and runs like one. You can be terrible at your job and you will still get the same paycheck as everyone else. There is incentive to NOT try hard because you won't be rewarded for your effectiveness or the extra work you put in. If you do work hard then you will see how the P.E. teacher shows up hungover every day and gets the same paycheck as the best core curriculum teachers in the county.

That really is the central problem that all the other problems revolve around. If it was actually a merit based profession like every other job, then almost all of the problems would go away. We don't need to pay all teachers more, we need to pay bad teachers less and give that money to the effective teachers. It is the teachers unions that make this impossible.

2
EtTuRINOs 2 points ago +2 / -0

Where I live all of the teacher's colleges are basically begging for non-white people to apply. The application forms and site brochures all advertise that you'll be accepted in much more easily if you're not white.

Worse than that?

Btw did you know that California spends more money per student than any other state in the country and more than all but like 2 or 3 countries in the world? They sit at around 48th or 49th in the US in terms of accomplishment.

Unions who get taxpayer money should not exist.

That includes teachers and police, That is why we are dealing with the shit we are now..

Because money and pensions are always more important than anything else.

Take away the unions and protections, and let the good cops and teachers rise to the top., and the shit for brains and power trippers get shitkicked to the side, like what happens in any other business who can actually get rid of shitty employees.

1

"Unions should be given more power"

The main purpose of the teachers unions is to ensure that the American public can't think on their own. They don't teach students. Instead, they use the most advanced dark psychology and Marxist education theory to program the students like one programs a computer. The goal is to turn the populace into compliant NPC's to be used as tools to destroy American freedom.

I work in a school full time, in person, everyday with kids with disabilities. Wearing a mask. Trying to keep masks on kids with autism is absurd, they're always wet and I have to touch their saliva now more than previously. Try teaching kids to talk when they can't see your mouth and you can't see theirs! I don't like my union. But some of us have to stay in education to fight the good fight and to prevent full indoctrination. I hate when people make blanket statements that i don't deserve a paycheck and want to stay home and drink. I speak up all the time to teach other teachers the way to not be steeple. Were all not like that fren.

2

Teacher's unions for years:

"Online learning is nowhere near as good and so it shouldn't be emphasized or expanded."

Teacher's unions now:

"You're killing us and the kids if you have physical classes!"

I know idiots that think the unions actually fight for better education of the kids. They fight for the purpose of higher wages and guaranteed job safety, just like any other union.

2
CLF3 2 points ago +2 / -0

The fact that teachers are unionized is just an extra creamy frosting layer of corruption on the putrid prussian education system this country adopted because of the dictates of the department of labor and their robber baron masters rockefeller, carnegie, and others.

In some places, I’ve heard, class sizes are up 33%, teachers up 30% and administration up 700%. These administrators are paying themselves much more than a teacher too. We put more per capita into every student in the US, but the dilapidated schools are more crowded than ever and they are eating prison food. These crooks are giving millions and millions of dollars away, of our money, in political contributions. They’re brainwashing our kids and molesting them. If we let them, they will become too powerful to stop.

Were in a teachers union, and I disagree that they are the cause of most problems (that's on no fault divorce and the resulting exponential growth in kids raised by single mothers) but they arebth cause of many of America's biggest problems, especially around Covid. Teachers unions are a big part of the Dems vote fraud ground game, as well as the leading face of their indoctrination machine.

2
WalmartIsCommunist [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

Unpleasant mental exercise but ask yourself how no fault divorce (which I actually agree with btw) came to be? Academia. Academia sets the tone for Western societies.
