People think Teachers Unions support education and students. WRONG! Teachers Unions represent the interests of it's members [education employees]. They don't care about kids or education.

education "employees." you'd be surprised at the split....it's like 30% teachers/70% administrators...and the number of admins has grown mightily in the last two decades.

I’ve heard that a few times. They add multiple administrative positions for every single teacher position filled.

Because institutions are funded, not students

The whole system is a money suck. Eventually, the only way to get more pay is to be promoted, so they create pointless higher positions.

That's the reason they also want more counties. More counties equals more administration.

NJ has only 21 counties but over 680 school systems, no lie. 70% of our property taxes fund the school systems, and the average household pays around $8,000 a year in property taxes. Some pay twice and three times that much.

I never heard of the exact numbers but I know NJ sinks in a lot of money into the school system. I also know people who believe they need more funding to educate the kids better and of course they're all liberals. What they don't realize is throwing more money at the system doesn't help the kids since all it does is create administrative jobs, increase their salaries, kickbacks with moronic publishers meant to indoctrinate kids, etc. It's amazing how many liberals think the money actually helps the kids. How about they have some accountability like charter schools who actually set requirements for teachers. Instead they have rubber rooms where teachers get paid to do absolutely nothing at work.

I heard of a movie that came out around 2009 that supposedly highlights a lot of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cartel

It’s pretty infuriating watching them subvert public opinion solely to enrich themselves. I’m in a union and we’re always hyper focused on our service delivery, whereas the teachers union is just constantly bitching and threatening to strike if they don’t get their way. And their objective isn’t to provide a better service, it’s to protect themselves from any type of performance measurement while they take higher and higher benefit packages.

I understand completely why people dislike public unions.

That is because your private sector union has a mutual interest in keeping your company afloat. There is no such interest in public sector unions. They have no incentive to keep the quality of their labor high because their jobs will always be funded. Even FDR was strongly against public sector unions because of this.

I am a public union but I understand your point. We do have an interest in fiscal responsibility as our funds are from property taxes and any year could flip the budget on its head (see 2020). That being said there always seems to be more and more money in the federal budget for the teachers unions to milk out.

Alright well imagine that something like 2020 happens and your local gov decides it needs to cut teachers salaries to make the budget work. So the local teachers union goes on strike.

But who are they striking against? It isn’t the school system. It is we the people. We are the ones who elected the people that put that budget in place. That isn’t the case in a private sector. Which is why I say all public unions have to go.

Most MAGA people know this.

What many of us are only now learning is that teacher unions and police unions are kinda the same.

Unions are Unions.
