It wasn't automatich citizenship, people still had to apply and go through the process, not everyone who qualified did apply; and the result at the time was about a 50/50 Dem/Rep split; and like most all populations of voters (except blackmailed SCOTUS justices) they tend to become more Republican as they get older/wiser with age/life.
The Dems started wholesale cheating pulling in nationa/international resources in 1994 to fight CA Prop 187 which would have destroyed the Dems as a national party, and made them back into only a corrupt Big City Political Machine. The issue is also the prospect of allowing family members easier access to come into the US due to the amnesty. I had a theory that these races that win by 500 votes or less, like the Frankin victory. These to me spell fraud. Folks, very few election have small margin outcomes.... Polling should be totally illegal as it is a tool for the fraudsters.... So the reason for the tight margin is that they want to commit as few illegal votes as possible because it would raise suspicion.... The next issue is conceding! The candidate should never be allowed to concede. The process should determine the winner. This way fraud cannot be swept under the rug!
If every state would follow federal law and actually keep their damn voter registration databases up to date and clean them at least once every 2 years instead of having hundreds of thousands of excess names on them (looking at you PA), and if theyd actually all require at least a state ID, and if they all only allowed registered voters to vote then we'd actually have elections that are less likely to have fraudulent results and almost impossible to commit fraud to the extent the outcome is altered. Also no damn machines until we can have 1 that allows full transparency and has whatever coding it takes to ensure 1 ballot 1 vote, and no altering mechanisms of any kind and then do a full hand recount of the original unaltered ballots if there is the slightest suspicion the machine reported false numbers.
