That's the melting pot thing that is supposed to be happening. You find humor in the differences and work through them, not take offense and refuse to change whatsoever.
I can't understand most accents for shit. I'm honest to everyone I work with that doesnt speak clearly and concisely, I have trouble understanding you and I'm hard of hearing as well. Some people get butt hurt about it. I'm polite, I want to understand you and care about what you are saying, chill.
You should carry around some of those cards like the joker “sorry for laughing awkwardly, I just can’t understand you and am just laughing and nodding randomly because you seem really interested in what you’re saying and I don’t want to be rude”
