His father beat his mother to death in a frenzy and served only two years. Between genetics and childhood trauma Lin is more likely than a random person to suffer from mental illness.
5.) Lin is being sued by law partners. He either wants to act crazy to forestall a settlement or he is actually destroying everything rather than pay. Not a smart play, but neither is beating your wife to death but only doing two years...
6.) There are other medical issues than can cause impaired judgment and bizarre behavior, e.g. brain tumors, some forms of epilepsy, infection, and adverse medicine reaction.
