I remember Soviets personally and I have talked to many people who remembered Nazis personally. The Nazi madness was however even more crazy and intense. Whole villages burned. Children used as experimental animals. Murders on industrial scale. That said, there would have been enough material for Moscow Trials, if the US Army had not stopped in Pilsen.
Dude, they absolutely did. They lit people on fire. They raped millions of women. The NAZIs were no doubt evil, but what happened to ethnic Germans in the aftermath of both WW1 and WW2 was nothing short of a crime against humanity. People should have been punished, but because the Holocaust was so bad, people readily accept that it was deserved. And it wasn’t just on the eastern front, it happened on the western side as well. Maybe this is just the nature of losing a war, but we still have college professors in America who challenge that the Ukrainian Holocaust even happened.
I have no sympathy for NAZIs. My family has NAZI memorabilia my grandfather took from the NAZIs he killed. However, to displace, torture, rape and kill entire populations because of their ethnicity and the crimes their government committed was a disgusting crime. Knowing the things our government has done, I’m very hesitant to blame a population for the crimes of their government.

Every objective analytical analysis has shown that the 2 atomic bombs saved far more lives than they took, due to the tens of millions of Japanese people (civilian and military, but mostly civilian) on the mainland that were fanatically devoted to their god emperor, and all ready to fight to the death.
It saved Japanese lives in the final tally, and it sure as hell saved Allied lives.

I support the use of those nukes. The alternative, an invasion of Japan, would have been many more dead. The Japanese were arming their civilians for an attack and telling them that they would be tortured and raped by Americans, and they would have fought to the death, women and children included. A million casualties, most of whom would have been civilians. In many ways, what the Japanese did was as bad or worse than the NAZIs. For whatever reason, their crimes were not focused on as much.
That being said, there is no shortage of crimes committed by Americans in war. That’s the nature of war. What happened to the German people after both great wars was an atrocity that went overlooked, and it has continued to this day as they are now forced to take refugees who never suffered because of the NAZI regime and in many cases did and still support the eradication of Jews.
