This, plus it's incredibly hard to prove defamation as a public official. Being in such an elevated position leaves you open to all manner of speech directed at you. How many politicians have been called corrupt? Doesn't mean that it's necessarily true or false, just that it's hard to win a civil case with statements like that.

There was never going to be a world where both houses of Congress would approve to reject electors from any state.
