There's no way the US military isn't already monitoring this and getting targeting data prepped for any contingency.
It would be absolutely suicidal for them to build any kind of base there as it is completely cut off from any kind of resupply. It is also 160 miles from the nearest US air base (Homestead) and even short range fighters could reach it, not to mention literally any missile we have. Any base set up there would be wiped out in minutes, along with every other Chinese island base around the world. They're sitting ducks (and falling apart, because they're made by Chinese so of course they are). Stop worrying about distractions like this.

Not sure about the validity, but a twitter comment was saying that the navy does exercises along routes running just off the island. Could be to monitor those exercises, just like the chinese owned ranch in Texas beside an air base?
