Not sure about the validity, but a twitter comment was saying that the navy does exercises along routes running just off the island. Could be to monitor those exercises, just like the chinese owned ranch in Texas beside an air base?
Why the hell would our Navy run exercises in foreign waters? And monitoring an air base, which plenty of our enemies do, is a far cry from monitoring subs.
