If both candidates lose, the dems will still not have the majority as Pence counts as a Senate seat. This means the total would be for 50-50 for both parties.

I believe there was a 50-50 or 51-49 split in the Senate back in the 90s. Some GOP Senator decided to become an independent and handed things over to the Dems.
