Just apply for a firearms licence and then buy one. It's as hard as that. The only two reasons they decline them for are being a current patient in a mental health facility, or having recently been convicted to serve jail time for a violent offense.

The whole process took me about 3 months from when I decided to get one to having it in hand. QLD. Several hoops to jump through, not difficult though.

Technically you can, it's just only allowed for a "valid reason" with a lot of restrictions. See the link the guy above posted.

or for using the reason for "self defense" as a reason to own one. I want to get a gun licence as soon as I finish my HSC and I've already done my research and in NSW, you cannot own semi-auto rifles.
