Even during the Revolutionary War the majority of people did not want to get involved. It's easy to shut things out if they don't appear to affect you. I've probably driven my family crazy talking about MAGA stuff, so maybe mix it in with other things or find common ground. Politics doesn't have to be everything, but it is important and should come up in conversation.
