They know you are there. They know you support Trump. There are certainly going to be hotel workers who are anti-Trump. They will take your stuff, damage it, or fuck with your shit in a way you won't know immediately, then they can deny anything (plausible deniability).

Just be extra cautious.

And, while you're at it... Make sure you are courteous to people. You are representing all of us, those who can make it and those who can't. We are a smart group of people, civilized, well-mannered, and have good principles. Let's be sure we save our tension for when it's needed.

Love you all for going out there... be safe.

Edit: It sounds like room safes are not very safe. You know what though, the room safe is still better than no safe. It may not be 'much' better, but it is still better than nothing.

another tip. Turn the bathroom light on, close the bathroom door, leave the TV on with volume at a point you can hear it. It will look like you are still in the room.

ThorsonTT 48 points ago +48 / -0

Hotel safes are not safe! Hide your stuff under the nightstand. Nobody looks under a nightstand, but hotel safes have numerous vulnerabilities. Watch Lock Picking Lawyer.

22
Ejax 22 points ago +22 / -0

You should leave something in the locked safe. Say $20 in ones etc. That will throw them off the scent. BTQW also don't leave a spare room key out and visible. hide that or take it with you.

Lock Picking Lawyer has destroyed any faith I ever had in lock security.

True that. Even if you change the default, most have a cheap manual backup under the nameplate.

All hotel safes have an override code held by the ownership. If you can’t afford to lose it, don’t bring it.

31
TheSwiftPepe 31 points ago +31 / -0

Not to mention you can Google the default override code for most of them since most hotels don’t bother changing it

14
Peppers 14 points ago +14 / -0

But wouldn't that let you change it?

11
CanadianTrump 11 points ago +11 / -0

code is MAGA2020 for life

14
HighEmergy 14 points ago +15 / -1

I remember seeing some viral video, the code was something like "0000" IIRC.

Just because it isn't expensive doesn't mean it isn't valuable. Sure, you can afford a new toothbrush but do you really want to risk some hotel staffer putting up their ass and then putting it back? It's still a good idea to be cautious and hide your stuff.

6
HockeyMom4Trump 6 points ago +6 / -0

Tip: Hide it under the bed. They obviously never look under there-have you see some of the disgusting filth under a hotel bed?

Always bring a ziplock bag for the remote. Trust me. Remotes need the ziplock. Think about it.

2
SuperDuperHypersonic 2 points ago +2 / -0

i just bring my own remote, at least i know where its been

5
Tiessa 5 points ago +5 / -0

That just conjured up a horrific image.

2
DemsFuckKids 2 points ago +2 / -0

isnt coffee hot enough to kill said bacteria?

1
SauronWasFramed 1 point ago +1 / -0

I dunno. I don’t use coffee makers in hotel rooms.

42
consumptiveballerina 42 points ago +43 / -1

My hotel said that if you're staying fewer than 7 days, you won't get housekeeping. Because COVID.

38
Fenianlad 38 points ago +39 / -1

I actually would prefer that

22
CuckS1ayer 22 points ago +22 / -0

That seems pretty standard right now. All the hotels in Vegas aren't doing housekeeping and pretending their employees are cleaning each room more.

2
Amaroq64 2 points ago +2 / -0

And just like that, housekeeping turnover went from "Yes" to zero.

pokeman -9 points ago +3 / -12

My friends told me his dad also works for Nintendo

29
becky21k1 29 points ago +30 / -1

I have a better idea. Examine the room and find where they obviously rarely clean. Put the valuables there. lol.

21
rethek 21 points ago +21 / -0

Good advice, but hopefully you have your own safe to put things in. Not only is it likely that the hotel has a master key or code for your safe, but they are notoriously poorly designed and easy to break into (See LockPicking Lawyer channel on youtube. I think he's broken into a couple using an orange juice bottle and the other one with a coat hanger. I think he did another one with just a small magnet).

20
Fenianlad 20 points ago +20 / -0

Locks only keep honest people out. And I doubt your Mexican hotel maid is as adept at picking locks as someone called LockPicking Lawyer.

Yes I’m sure she did that.

3

4
Fenianlad 4 points ago +4 / -0

this is believeable

4
LostViking1985 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's your chance to take. Most maids won't, you're right. You will MOST LIKELY be fine. But, it is a known criminal activity.

15
HonkThatBitch 15 points ago +15 / -0

Set up a trail cam in the room if you have one.

4
TraitorJoes 4 points ago +4 / -0

I bought one of the USB Charger Spy Cam's for like $20 on eBay. I use it as my travel charger. That way I can record any movement on the hotel room when I'm gone. Small, lightweight, discrete and serves as a charger.

3
Tiessa 3 points ago +3 / -0

I never pack a toothbrush. I always call the lobby for one when I arrive,

1

Are we the same person? I also wrap the remote in the ice bag. It never gets cleaned...

10
Formerlurker92 10 points ago +10 / -0

And when you sleep, put a peice of furniture against the door and wall to make entrance harder. Stack something that will make noise on it as well as an impromptu alarm

If you need something call housekeeping and have them deliver into your hands. Wouldn’t put it past those anti folks to plant something in your room then call the police on you! I know I may be reaching here but please stay cautious!

5
DuesImperator 5 points ago +5 / -0

THIS!!!! I’d be more worried about them planting something “dangerous, hateful, racist and illegal” than I would be about them stealing something.

8
TaxDollarsHardAtWork 8 points ago +8 / -0

Hide your toothbrushes or take them out of the room with you when you leave. You can imagine what some disgruntled hotel staffer will do to it if they find it out and about.

7
chipitin 7 points ago +7 / -0

Assume you are entering a hostile country - because you are

7
YouNeedVPN 7 points ago +7 / -0

Fun fact: all those safes are openable by hotel staff.

7
TwitterIsTrash 7 points ago +7 / -0

My parents told me to do this every time I’m at a hotel, so I always have for years. Do not disturb sign is always up so housekeepers don’t come in uninvited. I don’t use them anyway. I prefer cleaning up the room on the last day myself over having to tip them, and have them rifle through my belongings.

While most service people are honest people, we have to acknowledge that Trump has an effect on people. Some people can't function when they hear his name or see a Trump flag. They go crazy. What little morals they have are completely out the window if they see a Trump supporter.

3
Quietam_Unum 3 points ago +3 / -0

Trump has an effect on people

Yeah, have an otherwise smart friend who's IQ drops to "CNN" when DJT is mentioned...

2
FightTheSWAMP 2 points ago +2 / -0

Right. Trump Derangement Syndrome isn't some joke we made up to get a few laughs. It's real. Trump makes Democrats hate what they loved and love what they hated. All they need to hear to forget an oath, lose their morals, or switch opinions is that DJT supports it.

Talking about valuables, if you have room for it bring your own tp. Hotel tp is crap. Also paper towels, dawn dishwasher soap, bathroom foam cleanser, your own sheets. Whatever happened to bed bugs anyway? Did covid kill them off??

4
wing_str 4 points ago +4 / -0

That's stupid, keep your valuables (if you foolishly brought any) on your person.

3
Wanderfar 3 points ago +3 / -0

I checked in couple hours ago. They said “due to COVID no cleaning will happen until you leave. “ So unless it’s mischief makers which I haven’t seen ANY of today just thousands or smiling mask free Patriots. Friendly crowd for sure

I bought one of the USB Charger Spy Cam's for like $20 on eBay. I use it as my travel charger. That way I can record any movement on the hotel room when I'm gone.

I caught a cleaning lady sifting thru items on a dresser one time. Nothing was missing, so I think she did not find anything that interested her.

We're staying in a 4star hotel on the Hill, and here for 4 days. Concierge said, due to virus concerns, NO ONE will come in our room during our stay. Well how convenient is it that our hotel gets to lower their overhead, by not tidying our room!!!

1

Also immediately use the security lock. And if there is one, ram the rubber door stub into the base of the locked door. Safety first :)

1
Diotima 1 point ago +1 / -0

Leave broken glass outside of door in case antifa shows up to warn you also.

1
Crisis83 1 point ago +1 / -0

I would avoid using hotel safe’s, they aren’t that at all.

1
AmericanPatriot6f0 1 point ago +1 / -0

Don’t put valuables in the safe, put them somewhere that hotel workers won’t look. Safes in hotel rooms are some of the worst available.

1
Testosteroneape2000 1 point ago +1 / -0

0
Wholelottarosie1776 0 points ago +1 / -1

Bring a cable bike lock with you. Keep all your stuff locked in your suitcase (valuables way in the bottom in the zipper shell). Lock your luggage with the usual locks then chain your suitcase to something that is bolted down.

I travel Europe solo, ALOT and I have expensive luggage. I always do this because housekeeping loves to ignore the DND sign and I TRUST NO ONE.

0
Behind_Blue_Lines_II 0 points ago +1 / -1

Putting valuables in a hotel "safe" is the most idiotic advice Ive heard in a while
