Won’t work in reverse either, but I can get Arlington directions. I’m flying out today but my sister told me she couldn’t pull it up on maps and I checked and neither can I

You got lucky I think. Google is definitely blocking. Petty losers.

Google is indicating road closures around there. If you try DC or pin just outside of the White House area you should get directions just fine.

I argue that tech products infantilize the user by design.

Consider development over time of the map app. Early builds of map apps provided street names visible, could read them off to you along with distance to that turn. In use within a very short period of time the repetition constructed a mental-map of the area, the map app was no longer needed to navigate your area. Subsequent updates removed visibility of street names at a glance. Usually moved to a second page to click through. Directions dumbed down to 'turn left here. now turn right.'. Use of the app offloads the need to navigate your area, builds a dependency on the app in the human.

Thus my argument for opposing design philosophy -- design to improve the human. The products should always create a learning feedback that creates independent humans capable of more, faster. This improves your children's future. On large scale produces more capable geniuses, the next big breakthrough. Dependency is a cage.

Google acquired Waze so I'd be surprised if they're any better.

For that matter the traffic status of all the roads around the Smithsonian is closed on Google maps. Pinning any street a block away worked for me.
