Sherman was instrumental in the Union victory.

His scorched earth campaign caused the confederates to send resources they could not afford to send in an attempt to deal with him. As a result, the confederates were badly stocked and staffed for the Battle at Appomattox, thus Grant defeated Lee and the Civil War ended in a Union victory.

I have long proposed that Ft. Hood should be renamed Ft. Sherman, both to appease the descendants of the racist confederacy hell bent on rewritting history, and to properly recognize Sherman for his efforts to preserve the Union.

Naming a tank after him is not nearly enough.
