BUT... one thing that hasn't yet been brought up (that i have seen) what if there is more to it.... does the republicans losing the senate control basically force thier hand to contest the electoral college vote count to save thier senate majority?

You obviously live in a not shit hole state. Congratulations! However, let me break it down on how it works in Democratic fiefdoms.
You have to know "somebody" to get anything done from government contracts to private contracts by those who are politically aligned. If you step out of line from the norm you are investigated by the state and destroyed.
The Republicans are then paid to lose using the kickbacks gained through this method. So many people enjoy this as a way to extort more money off the tax payer.
In reality, it's just feudalism returning, which is pretty much what the Democrats have wanted lately, including turning illegals into 2nd class citizens to create a caste system.
