Yes the "heroes with flaws that actually make them terrible people" and "villains with good intentions" are guaranteed to win over any sinner. The later marvel movies have been real strong on those two points.
A hero who self sacrifices to do the right thing no matter what, or a villain who is just evil because they are evil is "boring" and "unrealistic."
