Actually here in Texas, they should start debate this coming session on whether to let Texans vote on secession this year. Austin tends to move things thru fast since they meet infrequently and assuming the proposal gets approved (very likely) voters can let them know this November how they feel. You are correct though about 2025. The representative who put it forth says it will take around 4 years to get it done (like Brexit) once it is approved.
Today probably won't spark any great revolution, no matter what happens
But either way it will water the seeds of resentment that are already on both side
