edit: I wasn't aware that Pence had to be impeached and can't be fired, and that a new VP would have to be affirmed by the Senate. However, could the insurrection act offer a shortcut to that process in extremis?

That I am unsure of. If he were to fire pence, he may have a grace period too where an acting VP can be used. Thats a scenario I have never really dived into.
